Prayer Ministry
"The Seed of Renewal"
by Jane Cernek

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." I was reminded of these words of Jesus (in Matthew 5) when one of our granddaughters kept saying during her visit here, "I'm going to be good forever and ever" with adorable innocence of her four years shining in her eyes. I prayed, "O God, keep that little heart pure as she continues her journey in life.” Then the thought came that Jesus was teaching His disciples when He spoke those words. Suddenly my prayer, of necessity, had to be applied to myself; "O Lord, make me pure in heart as I live my life."

Recently, I heard a pastor quote this old Scottish prayer:
"What we know not, teach us.
What we have not, give us
What we are not, make us."

This carries the spiritual depth that often evades us as we go through a normal day of life. In the book, "Fresh Faith" by Jim Cymbala, we read, "The monster within us - our human nature - is never eradicated.”

Shortly after reading this, God gave me a first-hand experience. I felt I had been wrongly treated and unappreciated by another Christian. After feeling miserable for a while, I forced my Bible open and read in Psalm 25:15 "My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only He can release my feet from the snare". I found that God was right there with me to release me from the snare of self-pity and restore a right spirit in me. And He did! It was really that simple. He gave me what it took to let go of the situation, but only when I was willing to turn to His Word, the Bible, for my help and direction.

Verse 20 goes on to say: "Guard my life and rescue me; let me, not be put to shame...may integrity and uprightness protect me because my hope is in You." I need to be rescued from my own sinful nature and from the enemy of my soul, Satan. I do not want to be ashamed of myself. I want to respond to others with integrity and uprightness. I must look to God for the right way to livenmy life in all circumstances.

As King David said in Psalm 51:10: "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me." That's why Jesus said, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

Love In Him, Jane
