Dear Brothers
and Sisters,
Prayer seems
to be becoming more prominent in the world of the
redeemed---those who have embraced salvation through Jesus and
His sacrifice for our sins on the cross. We are being
called to the urgency of a lost world and a lessened security in
our way of life. Many overseas Christians have already
lost their freedom to express their belief in Christ and quite
often, everything they own, or even family members or friends.
One of these believers will often be quoted as saying. "We can
do this. We live such a short time down here." They have
their sights set ahead to heaven as they endure whatever God is
allowing to come into their lives. I do not say this
lightly.
In Colossians
3, we are admonished to "seek those things which are above,
where Christ sits on the right hand of God." We are to
"set our minds on things above, not on things of this earth."
God alone can enable us to live in this way. It is quite a
thing to live "in the world", but not be "of this world".
Author O.
Hallesby writes that these words of Jesus are a call to pray:
"Behold, I
stand at the door and knock. If any one will open the door
I will come in to him and sup with him and he with Me."
Revelation 3:20 That is the ultimate of fellowship with
the Son of God. We must let Him into our life and He will
offer us this one-on-one kind of fellowship.
Hallesby also
writes that we must see our helplessness before we can
experience the power of prayer. We cannot change our own
hearts, let alone the situations before us. God can do it
all as we invite Him into our own needs and our distresses.
Prayer is not
easy, but it is an unbelievable privilege for all who know and
love the Lord. As you pray through this prayer calendar,
add others to the daily prayer list, perhaps someone with the
same kind of problem as the one listed for that day. Let's
enter into prayer together, knowing He is hearing all of our
prayers as we open the door to Him for a time of fellowship and
love. Who could ask for more?
In Him, Jane
