OUR HISTORY

February 14, 2008 - 20 years of Ministry to Farm and Ranch Families of America

RR Adopt President Mary Myers & Jeanne Edwards

visit with farmers in Waynesboro, Georgia,  February 14th, 1988

As Adopt Mission looks forward to their 20 years of ministry,  I remember the devastating drought in the Southern States, extremely high interest rates in 1986-87, and 22 USDA hotlines for farm and ranch families to call for help.  While these hotlines where well intended, they accomplished little for those whom there were no solutions  except the peace, hope and love that only the Lord can provide.  For this reason, 20 years ago, folks assembled in the Deputy Secretary's office  at USDA in Washington DC.  We met, talked and prayed often as to what direction the Lord would have us take in assisting these many hurting farm and ranch families of America.  Some of those present were: a representative of The Dupont Corporation, Thomas Herlong, President of the newly formed Fellowship of Christian Farmers, Int'l, a farm family and a pediatrician from Waynesboro, Georgia.  Also in attendance was Jeanne Edwards a friend from Massachusetts who is  pictured about with yours truly and Deputy Secretary, Peter Myers.

Discussion focused on how we, Adopt Mission and Ministry,  could assist people on farms and ranches, especially drought stricken lands, those experiencing foreclosures, divorces, and the horror of suicide. With a blessed "start-up" donation from The Dupont Corporation, a newly formed board of directors, Adopt A Farm Family of America, Inc. was "birthed", February 14, 1988, Valentines weekend, in Waynesboro. Georgia.

Celebrating the Adopt ministry of twenty years as "Ambassadors of Christ" to rural American, and in behalf of all of those who are presently involved along with those who have gone before us; I thank the Lord for each soul who has contributed to the accomplishments of His will here on earth.  And special  thanks also to each person who has contributed to the history, ministry and future of the nation's body, soul and spirit of Rural America.  Blessing to all who read this.  In the Love of Christ, Mary Myers
